Birds are animals with backbones or vertebrae. They also have feathers, a pair of wings, and two legs. They reproduce by laying eggs. Birds are warm blooded and have a constant temperature. Birds are classified under the Class Aves. The study of birds is called Ornithology. The aim of these web pages is to provide a collection of pictorial guide on Malaysian birds.
There are about 750 species of birds recorded in Malaysia. Some of these birds are migratory visitors while some remain in Malaysia throughout the year. Some were introduced as pet birds and have escaped or are released by their owners and are now living in the wild. Many are also introduced as farmed birds.
 Terdapat lebihkurang 750 spesies burung di Malaysia. Ada burung yang berhijrah dan melawat pada masa-masa tertentu. Ada juga burung yang hidup di Malaysia sepanjang tahun. Terdapat juga burung yang diimpot untuk dipelihara sebagai burung kesayangan dan terlepas atau dilepaskan dengan sengaja oleh pemiliknya, dan sekerang berhidup liar. Banyak jenis burung juga diimpot sebagai burung ternakan. |

EXOTIC BIRDSExotic birds are well know or special foreign birds, imported into the country and sold as pets. Many species of Exotic birds are imported into Malaysia each year. Apart from individual pet owners, and private collections, they are also sold to zoos, bird parks and averies.
Burung-burung exotik adalah burung terkenal atau luar biasa dari negara asing yang diimpot untuk dijual sebagai burung kesayangan. Banyak spesies burung exotik diimport ke Malaysia setiap tahun. Selain daripada pemilik burung kesayangan individual dan keleksi peribadi, burung-burung ini juga dijual kepada zoo, taman burung dan averi.

Farm birds are birds farmed for their commercial value as table bird or for their eggs. Example of farm birds are chicken, ducks, quails, goose, turkey and the newly introduced ostrich.
Burung-burung yang di ternakkan untuk nilai komesialnya sebagai daging burung hidangan atau untuk telornya. Contoh burung ternakan adalah ayam, itek, angsa, ayam belanda dan juga burung unta yang baru diperkenalkan sebagai burung ternakan.
